Plotting & Pacing Critique • Last activity 29/Mar

A group to work through issues of plotting and pacing of novels & novellas.

We're operating under the following tenets:

1. Focus is on STORY, not writing. That said, so far we're all doing a lot of in-line editing as well.

2. Long-form fiction only (Novel/Novellete), however, it's fine to submit outlines/synopsis for feedback and ask for help with plot holes, etc.

3. Quick feedback. The critique period is two weeks. So far that's usually under a week. Single scene/chapter submissions of no more than 4000 words.

4. Feel free to ask questions, tell other members what you don't understand and what "doesn't work" but refrain from suggesting alternatives unless you are specifically asked. As a member of this group, you're being asked to help others tell their story, not yours.

Genres

Adult

Novels (Literary, Upmarket, Historical fiction, Low magic/fantasy, Fantasy, Paranormal, Science Fiction, Horror, Mystery, Crime, and Thriller, Romance)

Children's

Middle Grade (Contemporary fiction, Historical Fiction, Adventure or Mystery, Low magic/fantasy, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Horror, Graphic Novel, Memoir)
Young Adult (Contemporary fiction, Historical Fiction, Mystery, Crime, or Thriller, Low magic/fantasy, Fantasy, Paranormal, Science Fiction, Horror, Romance, Graphic Novel)

Goals

Help each other with the plotting and pacing of long-form work. Examples: Does the overall plot of the story work for the reader? Does the story contain the right amount of events? Is the plot satisfying and fun to read? What's boring? Where is the author spending too much or too little time?
