This is a 6-week book club that will focus on studying Linda Ashman's The Nuts and Bolts Guide to Writing Picture Books. There are 9 chapters, so we'll be reading one or two chapters/week - see the submission schedule below for specifics. Each week, there will be questions for discussion and exercises to hone craft and revise our manuscripts.
The Nuts and Bolts Guide to Writing Picture Books is one of the top-recommended books on the craft. Linda Ashman is the author of over thirty-five picture books. Please make sure you get your copy of the book before the Book Club begins.
The goal of this Book Club is to support each other through self-study of the text, craft discussions, and constructive feedback.
Picture Book writers interested in learning the techniques spelled out in the book to better craft their stories.
Participants are expected to read the book and do the exercises, applying the principles to their manuscripts. They may share the exercises with the group or post questions for feedback.
