Picture Books with Bibi Lewis, Cohort 2 (evening debrief)

October 9th, 2020 - November 2nd, 2020

with Brooke McIntyre

Group started

Preparing your work for submission? In this intimate workshop, you'll receive market and editorial feedback on a picture book manuscript from Bibi Lewis, Associate Agent at Ethan Ellenberg Literary Agency, and you will exchange critiques with a small group of peers.

This workshop is geared towards writers who have workshopped their work in the past, studied their craft, and are getting ready to query or perhaps are querying already.

How it works

You'll submit a single manuscript at the group start, then spend the next weeks critiquing peer stories. Bibi Lewis will submit her notes near the critique deadline. After critiques are complete, we will have a debrief call where each writer gets individual time with Bibi to address key feedback themes and brainstorm next steps for their manuscript.

The group workshop format accelerates learning because, not only will you receive feedback on your own work, you will also be able to see and hear Bibi's feedback on the group's stories, which you will have read and critiqued.

Each agent and editor event we offer also comes with a submission opportunity.

Workload

Participants should be sure they have at least 1 hour to give for critiquing each person's manuscript. Because this is a group of 6, this means you should have at least 5 hours available for your peers' stories.

About Brooke McIntyre

Bibi Lewis is an agent and rights manager at the Ethan Ellenberg Literary Agency where she started in 2014. She is currently building her list in PB, MG and YA (both fiction and non fiction) and adult romance and mysteries. A native New Yorker, Bibi can most often be found reading on a train or curled up knitting with her cat.

About Bibi's editing process:
I approach editing the same way I look at solving a puzzle--asking myself how can I turn or shift these pieces to get the project looking polished and complete? I tend to think holistically about a project instead of on a line by line basis. The projects I am most interested in tend to be character forward, so I also always keep an eye out for how consistent the characters are in the project and how they can change over the course of the manuscript (yes even pbs!).
