You'll submit your picture book at the group start, then spend the next weeks critiquing peer stories. The editor will submit their notes near the critique deadline. After critiques are complete, we host a live group debrief over Zoom, in which each writer gets individual time with the editor to dig into feedback, brainstorm next steps, and discuss any writing questions.
Our goal with these events is to help writers strengthen the project submitted and to push their storytelling craft.

Claire is an assistant editor at Viking Children’s Books and Flamingo Books at Penguin Young Readers. She works primarily on picture books, and loves editing books that are laugh-out-loud funny and tends to veer away from lesson-heavy content, but also easily falls for books that tug on the heartstrings. Claire has edited the upcoming books Proper Badger Would Never! Written by Lauren Glattly and illustrated by Rob Sayegh Jr.; Grilled Cheese? Yes, Please! Written and illustrated by Tim Kleyn; and Oh No! A Pigsty! Written and illustrated by Dudolf. Claire has also assisted on Seth Meyers and Rob Sayegh’s I’m Not Scared, You’re Scared!; Charlie Grandy and Alex Griffiths’s How to Talk Like a Bear and many, many others. My debut picture book Cupig illustrated by Rob Sayegh Jr. is scheduled for publication in November 2023.
