Intensive + Discussion : Keys to Story-building Success, Fall 2025

October 6th, 2025 - December 1st, 2025

with Lorin Oberweger

Members: Log in to register

Non-members may register on August 14th at 10:00 (EDT).

After Lorin's talk for us on Maximizing your Premise, we wanted to go deeper into the topics she raised. This intensive breaks those areas open.

Each 90-minute class includes teaching and time for your questions, plus short in-class exercises and take-home exercises for participants to complete on their own. In addition, participants will have access to the 2022 class. We'll cover:

Class 1: Making the Most of Your Story World

Class 2: The Protagonist as Catalyst

Class 3: Organic Plotting

Class 4: Building Reader Empathy and Anticipation

When you sign up for the intensive + discussion, you will join a call led by Lorin accompanying each class to discuss class concepts in relation to your work. You'll complete homework exercises and bring them to the session for feedback, questions and discussion. Lorin will also provide light feedback to participants in the group's workspace after the calls (should you want to adjust homework based on feedback).

To take the intensive without the discussion section, register here.

Notes

Who this workshop is for:
This class is for multiple levels. Lorin will be tackling class topics in depth and her unique perspective makes this an exciting class for experienced writers. Because the class addresses foundations, it will also be valuable for writers working on first and second novels. We have found that writers generally take away what they need based on what they are working on and where they are in their journey. In other words, you might take the same class twice and take away different things!

Focus: Adult - Novels - Literary - Adult - Novels - Upmarket - Adult - Novel…

Group size: 10 writers

Submissions: Writers will be able to submit revisions of their homework for light feedback from Lorin a few days after each discussion.

Fee

Members: $250; Non-members: $295
