Join senior developmental editor, Julie Bliven, as she dives into the specific craft of writing a Novel in Verse.
Develop Your Novel in Verse by Reexamining Remarkable Examples
In this session, we will explore what has worked well in recent, popular novels in verse that have clearly resonated with middle grade and young adult readers. Together we’ll identify and discuss specific examples of elements that set this narrative form apart from prose, including imagery, rhythm, emotional change, and the way sparseness can create honesty. The goal is to note ways the poetic, lyrical form can heighten a story’s emotional truth and pacing while remaining anchored in tension, change, and the sensory world, too. We’ll also look closely at how successful NiV authors craft protagonists whose inner rhythms of emotions shape the overarching energy and appeal of their narratives.
There will be a Q&A at the end of the class where you can ask your questions live.
