Beginning Writers Support & Critique Group • Last activity 23/Apr

Are you just starting your creative journey? Do you have a general idea that maybe you've word vomited a chapter or two on? Or have you nearly completed your story and just want to share it with someone and get a general consensus on if you've portrayed your theme correctly, heading in what you think is the right direction, and want to get the opinions/creative ideas and constructive critique of other writers? Whatever your progress in your artistic journey, this group was made to help aspiring artists help get past the initial struggles of motivation, writers block, and the ever present critic in our mind that can be more harsh than anyone else we come into contact with. Whether you are starting with an idea and no work done yet, or are contemplating sending your story to a publisher/editor, I wanted to create a safe space for people in all stages of their journey to feel comfortable to share ideas with each other and push their story to the finish line. Please remember there is a difference between constructive critiques, and completely disregarding the authors intent and ideas. As an aspiring author working on his first novel, I felt this would be a great space for like minded people that were looking for inspiration, motivation, and support along their journey.

Genres

Adult

Novels (Literary, Low magic/fantasy, Fantasy, Paranormal, Science Fiction, Horror, Mystery, Crime, and Thriller, Romance, Verse Novel)
Short Fiction (Flash Fiction, Literary, upmarket or general, Low magic/fantasy, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Horror, Other Speculative Fiction, Mystery, Crime, or Thriller, Romance)

Goals

The ultimate goal is a finished novel. So whatever stage in the process it's members are, whether someone only has a chapter written, or whether they are looking for final critiques before sending off to the editor, our goal is to assist in that endeavor. Whether you want someone to check your work and make sure you are getting your story across in a cohesive and productive manner. Whether you are looking for final grammar checks. Or need help connecting the plot lines you know you want to reach, but have trouble with the minor details. This group is for any and all in their writing process to help them reach a finished novel that they are happy with.

Admissions Policies

Again, the main point is to remember there is a difference between constructive critique and a complete disregard for the authors artistic ideas, and what they are wanting from their story as a whole. If you have a story to tell, whether you are trying to be published, or are using writing as a form of cathartic expression, then you are welcome in this group. If you want to be given honest opinions on your work, your honest opinions on others work is appreciated and expected in kind.

What we're looking for in members

We are looking for enthusiastic people to share their stories, as well as give their opinions and critiques on others stories. Never shame anyone on their progress in their story. Whether they have barely formed an outline and a rough idea, or whether they have a full novel written. The point of this group is to uplift each other, provide support, insight, and ideas that can help someone reach their goals with their own stories. We are all here for a reason. We want to escape reality, and we have a story to tell. If you can appreciate the message we have portrayed so far, then this is a great place for you

Inactivity Policy

Again, as much or as little as you want to submit your work. We don't want to be overbearing or critical. This is for you, at your pace, and at your comfort. We only request that you don't join and never contribute and take up space for potential new members that wish to contribute. No real requirements but if you haven't been active for months we will reach out to check if you still want to be in the group.
